Numerous activities including surfing, swimming, camel riding and wind surfing are available along the beach. On the bluffs immediately south of the ramp, is a grassy park and car park, then the surf club, with the main resort and tourist facilities all located on the eastern side of the road.
The surf club was founded in and sits atop the bluffs with an excellent view across the beach. When using all beaches in the northwest of Australia be mindful of the large tide range, which can reach 11 m at Broome. Always check the tide before using the beach.
A rising tide can flood cars and belongings left unattended on the beach, while low tide requires a m long walk across the sand to the water , and more chance of encountering rocks and reefs. Answer: The general rule is that you can swim in Broome during the dry season. The reason is that Irukandji and box jellyfish are not active in colder waters. Once the water temperature is over 28 degrees you should definitely stay out of the water.
I would not even dream about entering the water during the wet season. Because the main factor is the water temperature and not the time of the year as such, there is still a risk at the beginning of the dry season. It takes the water some time to cool down. There is no set date, it all depends on the weather, how much the water has warmed up during the wet etc. Unfortunately Irukandji stings have occurred as late as June. Here is some more information about Irukandji at Broome beaches.

There is crime everywhere and there will always be social issues. It is not safe to walk the streets late at night but are there any places left in the world where we can do so, knowing with absolute certainty, that nothing bad will happen? Thanks for the reply. Re: spiders. Am I correct in assuming there are Hunstmen?
Re: cost of living. Re: Crime. Like I said I think what I was reading was quite old and seemed to have a very anti-broome bias. It must have been an extreme case. Hi, I recently visited Cable Beach and was curious to find out if anyone knows why there are so many hawks? Many thanks. Hi I am visiting Broome and Derby next year with my kids ages 5 and 7, I am really worried about crocodiles! Are there safe places to swim? Are we safe camping along the river? Is it best not to walk anywhere near the rivers or creeks? The crocodile worry is slightly taking over any excitement I might have about taking my kids there! I have had this concern raised a few times on this blog. Hi thanks for your post. We are a young family of soon to be four looking at moving to Broome. My husband is fifo to Karratha and we have previously lived in Karratha for 5 years.
I am interested to know what the safest most family friendly suburbs are to rent in. I would be stay at home with the kids so this is important to me. All these suburbs are very family orientated.
